Final Week

Well it's here. Final week is upon us. But before I talk about that, let me tell you a little bit about our weekend!

On Saturday we took a trip off-cape all the way to the Berkshires to sing at James and Laura's wedding. It was really beautiful out there. Once we got through the MAJOR cape traffic, we drove out to the Great Barrington area. It's so nice out there. The rolling hills reminded me of school up in New Hampshire. We saw some nice little villages and no chain stores like a Best Buy or Olive Garden. You know you're out there when there's no cell phone reception to be found. I have to say that my favorite memory of the trip was singing on the deck of this manor, overlooking a field and hills as a thunderstorm formed right over us. It was really one-of-a-kind.

Yesterday we sang at the conclusion of Centerville Old Homes Week. What a nice venue! A summer tabernacle with open windows and wood framing. Before that was Day 1 in the studio laying down tracks for our next studio album. It won't be released till 2007 but we lay down half of the tracks this summer. It's a lot of fun and at the same time takes a lot of work. You certainly learn a lot about your voice and how you sound. Ed Boyer (HS '03-'04) has been here recording us. We have two tracks laid down so far with 4 more to go this week.

Tonight is the last Falmouth show of the summer. I can't believe it's here already. One last go-around starts in a few hours...

Alumni Weekend

Well alumni weekend has come and gone. I can honestly say that it was one of the best times I've ever had, with many memories made. It all started with a Friday night show in Hyannis. We featured a special guest group called Firedrill during the show. Firedrill is a group composed of past Hyannis Sound members who got together for the purposes of making some more acappella. They competed in the Harmony Sweepstakes contest where they won the Boston regional event. They rocked the house with some tunes, and then us 2005 guys joined in for a round of "Hold On, I'm Coming" with Vic on solo.

Saturday was a day for HS 2000 to brush up on their set and for the rest of us to brush up on our ultimate frisbee. We headed to the fields to play an ultimate frisbee game of alumnus versus current guys. At first we thought this would be a really easy win, but it turns out that the "old guys" are quite good, and they certainly gave us a run for the win. However, we edged them out to become the champions in what will hopefully become a reunion weekend tradition.

After the game it was time to get ready for one incredible concert. We opened the show with everyone past and present in attendance singing "Hold On..". Then the 2005 line up came out with a 7 song set. I tried to profess my love for Samrat Chakrabarti during "Sweet Caroline", but he ran away. Here's a picture of Micah singing "Ready for Love"

After our set the group from 2000 (minus Matt Henderson, who is touring with his awesome band EastonAshe) and James Carran came on and absolutely rocked the house.

It was really exciting for me to see them perform because the 2000 line up of the Hyannis Sound was the first group I had seen and really got me hooked and wanting more.

All in all, it was a fantastic weekend. The former Hyannis Sound guys are truly some of the best people in the world, and I enjoyed every minute of it. I am already excited and looking forward to next year's throwdown.

Late Night with The Hyannis Sound

What a crazy night we had last night!

We got to Chatham and as I was getting my clothes out of the car, my tie got stuck in the door of my car, jamming the door shut. Fortunately Andy and I were able to pry it back open, but it was just a hint of how unpredictable that night would be...

So we are warming up for the show when we are notified that the show has sold out already AND there were many people who were not going to get in. It just made sense that we do a second show so everyone could have a chance to hear us sing. So we went out and had a great first show which included a special performance by Eric Fozz, Ed Boyer, Victor Sandman, and Mark Manley singing two barbershop tunes between our sets. Then, during the second show, all bets were off!

The second show was something one-of-a-kind. It featured just about the entire line-up from 2004, also with Mark, Greg Binstock, and Sasha Chanoff. We sang tunes from '03,'04, and some standards from way back in '94 and '95. It was truly awesome to sing songs that I had enjoyed so much as a fan like "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". It was a nice little preview of the HUGE alumni show going on at Barnstable High School on Saturday.

Suffice to say, there were some memories made last night!

There's a Fair in the Air!

So we performed at the Barnstable County Fair on Wednesday, which was a lot of fun. They always have some really cool stuff there. One particular activity of note is face painting. We convinced Andy that the Old Andy would get his face painted. He said that if we paid for it, he would get it done.

Big Mistake.

So we front the money and next thing you know...

We then continued to check out the fair so that Andy had to parade around his freshly drawn art. It was nothing short of hilarious.
